Teachers and Paras Encouraged to Gain Skills to Create an Inclusion Lifeline

In an inclusion classroom, general education teachers and special education teachers work together to meet the needs of students. This type of classroom gives special education students the support they need and allows them to stay in the least restrictive environment. All students can benefit from the additional resources and supportive techniques used in an inclusion classroom. Turtle Wing Foundation is offering a very special workshop for all teachers, general education and special education, and the paras who support them in the classroom with the goal of creating an inclusion lifeline. This training will be held on Friday, July 16 from 9 AM to 3 PM at the Sacred Heart Family Life Center (313 S. Texana Street, Hallettsville). Presenters are Loueva Hatfield and Julia Hollek of Hatch Educational Consultants. Through discussion and practice, the following objectives will be covered: inclusion goals; identification of types of student learning/behavior challenges; outline to match the appropriate instructional strategy, accommodation and/or modification to identified student differences; and implementation roles within the inclusion setting. Registration is $10 and includes lunch. To register, staff or school may contact Phyllis Fritsch at (979)505-5090 or phyllis@turtlewingfoundation.org. Turtle Wing hopes to have participation of staff from every school district in their service area, which includes Colorado, Fayette, Lavaca and surrounding counties. Parents are also encouraged to attend to learn how to be a better partner with their child’s inclusion support staff and help their own child with homework. Turtle Wing Foundation is a 501c3 non-profit organization which helps children with academic, social-emotional, behavioral and/or developmental needs and provided Early Intervention and Supplemental Services to almost 300 children last year with thousands more being impacted by Community Education & Advocacy programming.
