Schulenburg Knights of Columbus Donated to Turtle Wing Foundation

Founded on the principles of charity, unity and fraternity, the Knights of Columbus was established in 1882 by Father Michael J. McGivney, assistant pastor of St. Mary's Church in New Haven, Connecticut, and a group of parishioners. Their intent? To bring financial aid and assistance to the sick, disabled and needy members and their families. Members are Catholic men who lead, serve, protect and defend. They share a desire to be better husbands, fathers, sons, neighbors and role models and to put charity and community first. The Knights of Columbus Schulenburg Council #2902 demonstrated this commitment to the community by donating to Turtle Wing Foundation to help support the 2021 Jack Hooper Day at the Ballpark and Homerun Derby. Leadership presented a check for $1000, which the membership voted to donate in order to support Turtle Wing programming. Turtle Wing has been providing Early Intervention, Supplemental Services and Community Education & Advocacy programming to children and families with academic, social-emotional, behavioral and/or developmental needs since 2012. Annually, over 300 children are receiving direct services with thousands more benefiting indirectly through education and advocacy work. The 2021 Jack Hooper Day at the Ballpark and Homerun Derby has been set for May 1, 2021 at Wolter’s Park in Schulenburg. The foundation is already gearing up to cultivate sponsorships for this their longest running fundraising event. The K.C.’s are a prime example of untraditional support. The work of the foundation benefits our communities as a whole. Sponsors can be businesses, fraternal or philanthropic organizations, or even individuals who simply want to help children with disabilities “grow wings and fly”.
