Turtle Wing Foundation is hosting a free one-day seminar that will provide families and professionals with the information and tools needed to plan for a young adult’s life after high school. This training is being facilitated by Cynda Green who works with Texas Parent to Parent (TxP2P) as the Transition Team Lead as well as being a parent herself. Pathways to Adulthood is open to families whose children have a disability, chronic illness or other special health care needs, and the professionals who work with them. Topics include:
· Funding sources
· Legal issues: guardianship and alternatives, estate planning
· School transition services & maximizing remaining school years
· Medical transition
· Opportunities for work
· Ideas for establishing a positive family-run home
· Building networks of support
· Emotional obstacles parents face in planning
Participants will learn how to plan now for quality of life! This training will be held on Friday, November 30 from 9 AM – 2 PM at Blinn College/Schulenburg (100 Ranger Dr.) in room #121. Lunch will be provided. Additionally, running concurrently, there will be a Transition Resource Fair from 8 AM – 3 PM across the hall in room #120. It is not necessary to attend the training to take advantage of the opportunity to attend the Resource Fair and visit with the 15+ service providers exhibiting.
