Parent Training on Preparation for ARD or 504 Meetings

Turtle Wing Foundation is hosting a free seminar that will provide families with the information and tools needed to be fully prepared to participate in their child’s ARD or 504 meeting. Parent participation in the ARD or 504 process is critical for the success of their child in their educational setting. The more that is known and understand about the process, the better the outcome will be. This is beneficial to both the families and the schools they are partnering with. It should be a partnership. This workshop will help you understand what to do before, during and after the meeting so that you will be an effective member of your child’s educational team. Both parents new to the process or seasoned veterans are encouraged to attend. This training will be held on Thursday, February 7 at three different locations:

· 9:00 am to 11:00 am at the Texana Center (1460 Walnut St., Columbus, TX 78934)

· 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at the Randolph Recreation-Activity Center, Room B (653 East Pearl St., La Grange, TX 78945)

· 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Hallettsville Chamber of Commerce conference room (1614 N. Texana St., Hallettsville, TX 77964)

All workshops will be presented by Brenda Nelson, Case Manager for Turtle Wing Foundation.  Brenda brings a unique perspective to her trainings as the parent of a successful young adult on the autism spectrum who received special education services from age three through high school graduation. Having a background in education, her passion is helping parents and educators work together for the success of students with learning challenges in all stages of the journey.
