#GivingKidsWingsDay2019 is a Shared Effort

Celebrated on the Tuesday following U.S. Thanksgiving, and fueled by the power of social media and collaboration, #GivingTuesday inspires millions of people across the globe to show up and give back to causes and issues that matter to them. The goal is to create a massive wave of generosity that lasts well beyond that day, and touches every person on the planet. #GivingTuesday takes place on December 3, 2019 this year.

When #GivingTuesday launched in the US in 2012, organizers believed that technology and social media could be used to make generosity go viral; that people fundamentally want to give and to talk about giving; and that the social sector had the capacity to show more innovative leadership, creativity, and collaboration. People and organizations around the world proved them right. In just seven years, #GivingTuesday has radically changed how we think about generosity and showed just how much power communities everywhere have to create change.

Turtle Wing Foundation has branded their #GivingTuesday campaign this year #GivingKidsWingsDay2019. Anyone wishing to support this effort can donate directly on Facebook, potentially tripling their donation. This is due to a local $5,000 match generously provided by McCourt & Sons Equipment, Inc. in addition to Facebook and PayPal who are matching a total of up to $7 million of donations made through Facebook across the world. Donations made early in the morning are more likely to receive the second match. All fees are waived on this day for on-line donations as well. A second option is for supporters to set up their own fundraiser through their personal page. Anyone interested in doing so can download a guide from https://www.facebook.com/fundraisers/ and create a Facebook fundraiser that in turn they can share with their friends on #GivingTuesday. Creating a fundraiser is easy and Turtle Wing welcomes fundraiser support at any goal amount.

Turtle Wing has been providing Early Intervention, Supplemental Services and Community Education & Advocacy programming to children and families from Colorado, Fayette, Lavaca and surrounding counties with academic, social-emotional, behavioral and/or developmental needs since 2012. Last year 325 children received direct services with thousands more benefiting indirectly through education and advocacy work. Those who are interested in joining Turtle Wing’s #GivingKidsWingsDay2019 initiative can visit their Facebook page @turtlewingfoundation on December 3 or stop by the Turtle Wing office at 723 Upton Avenue in Schulenburg. Turtle Wing will hold a special open house from 8 AM – 5 PM on #GivingTuesday to accept walk-in donations, welcome new families and also hold a special merchandise sale.
