Ghoulish Fun to be had at the 6th Annual Monster Dash

Fall is in the air and Turtle Wing Foundation is gearing up for the 6th Annual Monster Dash to be held Saturday, October 13, 2018 at the Railroad Park (535 N. Main St.) in downtown Schulenburg. The community is invited to participate in a wide variety of family fun! Entries are being encouraged (no entry fee!) in the Jack Hooper Halloween Costume Contest, Boo Around the Block and the first annual Halloween Themed Bake-Off. Pre-registration is requested for Boo Around the Block, in which businesses, organizations or families may decorate a station or vehicle and hand out treats to the trick-or-treaters. Details may be found on the Turtle Wing Facebook page or by contacting the office at 979-505-5090. Set up for Boo Around the Block starts at 4 PM with trick-or-treating beginning at 5 PM. For the costume contest, families are encouraged to dress up their little goblins and super heroes or even do a team costume. Entries will be accepted 4:30-5:30 PM with voting occurring 5:30-6:30 and the winner announced afterwards. There will be numerous categories such as Best Homemade, Best Group, Best Duo, Scariest, Funniest/Silliest, Cutest and Best 5-minute Throw Together. The Bake-Off is a new event and is open to amateur bakers of all ages. Entries must be homemade desserts and should be brought to the Turtle Wing office (723 Upton Avenue) between 3:30-4:15 PM with judging at 4:30. Prizes will be awarded for Best of Show, Tastiest and Most Creative. The Best of Show will be auctioned off live at 6:30 PM. For those who don’t want to enter in one of these areas, there will be plenty of fun to be had for the whole family between 4-7 PM including the actual Monster Dash, a kid zone, music & food, photo booth and silent auction. The Monster Dash event benefits Turtle Wing Foundation which strives to help children with learning challenges in rural areas achieve their full potential. Program participants have all been from Colorado, Fayette, Lavaca and surrounding counties with academic, social-emotional, behavioral and/or developmental needs. Turtle Wing’s three programming areas are Early Intervention, Supplemental Services, and Community Education & Advocacy.
