Early Childhood Providers & Parents Encouraged to Attend Training on Behavior Interventions

Turtle Wing Foundation would like to encourage all day care staff, preschool teachers and parents of children ages zero to six to attend a training that will be offered on Thursday, November 29, and the Schulenburg Elementary Cafeteria from 6:00 PM -8:00 PM. The topic is “Help! How do we help these children?” and will discuss Evidence Based Interventions. The presenter is Dawn Mc Millan, a former child care director and

Texas certified Special Education teacher with 21 years of experience.  She is the owner of Full Circle Whole Child, which provides tutoring, social skills coaching, and parent consultation.  As part of the program Mrs. Mc Millan will cover:

Discovering the functions of challenging behaviorsHow to identify the antecedent and create an action plan for long lasting changeIncorporating social skills throughout the day for self-regulation, emotion-based responses, verbal and non-verbal communication and moreWorking with the special needs population (both diagnosed and unidentified)Evidenced based strategies for challenging behaviors in the special needs populationHow to assist in the identification process of a child suspected of needing further intervention, including having difficult conversations with parentsEducating parents on the importance of early interventionWhat resources are available in the area for children who have special needs

A light meal will be provided. This training is offered thanks to a collaborative effort between Turtle Wing Foundation and the Schulenburg/Weimar Area Parents as Teachers Program with the support of a Community Investment grant from Wells Fargo.
